Palestile, 2025–ongoing
Research-based digital archive, documentation and mapping project
Palestile is an ongoing digital archive and mapping project dedicated to documenting cement tiles in Palestinian homes, bringing together patterns, houses, oral histories, photographs, and the memories connected to them. Beginning in Palestine, the project aims to gradually expand its documentation across Bilad al-Sham (the Levant) and beyond, tracing connections between tiles, domestic spaces, people, and place.
Alongside the digital archive, Palestile organizes public dialogues in different cities and communities. These gatherings introduce the project to local residents, invite people to share stories and knowledge, and help locate homes where original tiles remain, allowing the archive to grow through direct encounters with the communities it documents.
Palestile builds on earlier research and artistic work around cement tiles, including the booklet What If Tiles Could Speak? and the installation Juloos.
The project supported by Khazaaen , Jerusalem.
